The Spanish pavilion of the 5th São Paulo Architecture and Design Biennial was conceived as a two-pronged project: a workshop and an exhibition. During the “Cidade 10” (City 10) workshop, renowned architects and designers from the Spanish state developed with groups of children from favelas, and in collaboration with NGOs from Spain and Brazil, a reflection on the concept of the city. The results were a series of models and drawings that could be seen throughout the biennial. The “Semillas” (Seeds) exhibition includes a selection of Spanish projects, many of them unbuilt and even utopian, as embryos of ideas and concepts that invite to reflection.
Likewise, the pavilion’s catalog, published in Spanish and Portuguese, reflects this dichotomy in its format and content. With double entry, half of the book is devoted to an approach to the concepts of the city and the work of NGOs with disadvantaged groups, while the other half, mirrored, collects the projects on display.
